Some new insurance companies try their best to reject claims to make a profit by applying ridiculous logic and this latest case seems to be supporting that foul practice.
In a latest case, an insurance company denied the claim of its customer for not having Google Timeline on his smartphone. These days, there are myriad new companies that have spawned with the advent of the internet and smartphone penetration. These companies offer insurance without proper paperwork online at low premiums. That attracts car owners to buy packages from them without reading what’s written in the fine-print. That is what they leverage while analysing any claim. Here are the details of this latest case.

Insurance Company Denies Claim Because of Google Timeline
The video has been uploaded by Nikhil Rana on his YouTube channel. He regularly posts content around road safety and information regarding various practices in the industry. This time around, he captures a case where a Tata Altroz owner shares his terrible experience with the insurance company called Magma HDI. As per the information mentioned in the video, the Altroz owner was involved in an accident where one side of the bonnet, headlights, bumper and some other parts of his premium hatchback were damaged.

While claiming insurance, the surveyor of the company asked if the owner has the details from Google Timeline. Basically, it is a setting that shows the places you have visited and the routes you have taken based on your Location history. For this, the location services on your smartphone must be ON. But most people don’t use it for various reasons. However, citing this reason, the surveyor rejected the claim of the applicant. Needless to say, this caused questions in the mind of the owner which is why he takes the advice of people online.

Now, we must be aware of such scams that many new and small insurance companies run on a daily basis to prevent issuing the claim amount. There are no such rules that one needs to have their location services ON to claim insurance. It is high time we become conscious of such scams and report them to the authorities so that people don’t get tricked. We advise you to buy insurance only from established and reliable companies after conducting due research.
