The Audi Q7 facelift has got a bunch load of improvements. It has far better styling, its far more rich in features and there have been mechanical updates as well.
Audi has unveiled the mid-life facelift for its Q7 SUV. The Audi Q7 facelift gets refreshed styling, much more tech on the inside to keep it in line with rest of the family and this time around, all the engines feature electrified technology. The Audi Q7 facelift will be showcased at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September with global sales pursuing soon after.
The new Q7 will be available with three engine options. There will be two 3.0L diesel engines in two different states of tune – one producing 231.2hp and the other 286hp. There’s also a 3.0L, petrol engine which can produce 339.6hp. All three engines come mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox but the biggest news this time is that all the engines would be paired with a 48V mild-hybrid electrical system. It allows the car to coast up to 40 seconds with the engine switched off.
A plug-in hybrid petrol version will also follow soon but technical details of that has not been revealed yet. And then of course, finally there will be the SQ7 with a 4.0L, twin-turbo, V8 diesel engine capable of producing 435 bhp and 900 Nm of peak torque. Its the same engine that was recently unveiled with the new SQ8.
The Audi Q7 facelift features quite some significant design changes. The pre-facelift model never looked like a flagship Audi SUV(of course the Q8 did not exist back then). It was quite blunt and could easily pass unnoticed. With this new Q7 however, it can certainly make its presence felt.
At the front, the hexagonal grille has grown larger with a chunkier chrome surround around it. The front bumper has been completely redesigned with larger air-dams and the LED headlights get the new detailing found in the new Audi’s these days and they look stunning. The SUV remains largely the same in profile but it now gets 20-inch alloy wheels which again look stunning. The previous gen just got 18-inches wheels which looked quite small on the Q7.
At the rear, the tail lamps again get the new detailings and the bumper has been redesigned with dual exhaust outlets. There’s also a thin chrome band joining the two tail lamp clusters. What really helps the look of this SUV are the new all around body cladding which makes it look butch, aggressive and like a proper SUV. Also, the car is still based on the same platform but has grown longer by 11mm, now making it 5,06 mm but the wheelbase remains the same.
On the inside, the cabin is now inline with the latest interior design language of Audi. The cabin is dominated by the latest version of Audi’s twin-touchscreen MMI infotainment system, featuring a main screen of 10.1 inches. The lower screen has the climate controls and several vehicle functions and can be a little cumbersome to use as it requires you to take your eyes off the road. The rest of the cabin is typically Audi and the virtual cockpit system is standard with an optional heads-up display.
The Audi Q7 facelift will also be available with an optional electromechanical active roll stabilisation and all-wheel steering for better handling dynamics. The brakes have also been upgraded, now measuring 400mm at the front and 370mm at the rear. Carbon-fibre-ceramic brake discs are available as an option.
