Bajaj Dominar 400- What Makes This Power Cruiser So Desirable?

Bajaj Dominar 400

Bajaj Dominar 400 is the most powerful offering from Bajaj and also the most technologically advanced. Here are the specifications, prices, features and top speed of the power cruiser.ย

Bajaj Auto has Pulsar series and its commuter motorcycles to keep it amongst one of the top two-wheeler manufacturers of the country. With Pulsar range, it set a new benchmark and then daily commuting just got sportier than ever.

Now, its most desirable offering is the powerful Bajaj Dominar 400. The power cruiser is basically a modern-style street cruiser. It shares its engine with KTM Duke 390, which is retailed by Bajaj.

Despite the good looks, premium features and a rather decent pricing, it still does not generate many sales for Bajaj Auto. Maybe because buyers prefer an affordable Bajaj only?

With a price tag of Rs 1.68 Lakhs, it goes off against KTM Duke 390, Royal Enfield Classic 350, Mahindra Mojo UT 300 and the newly launched Jawa 300.

Dual channel ABS Rs 1.58 Lakhs

The bike is aggressively priced starting from Rs 1.46 Lakh for the standard variant to Rs 1.58 Lakh for the ABS variant (both prices ex-showroom). The given price creates a tough competition. Also, given the features and engines that it provides, the pricing is decent.

Engine 373 CC
Power 34.5 BHP

The bike runs on a 373 CC Liquid Cooled engine that produces 34.5 BHP worth of power and 35 Nm worth of torque. It comes with a fuel injection system.

Although it copies some elements from KTM Duke, it uses Bajaj’s trademark Triple spark 4-valve DTS-i engine. Dominar also uses a single camshaft, instead of two, to operate the four valves.

In terms of transmission, it uses a Slipper clutch that is mated to a 6-speed gearbox.

The bike records a high speed of 147 Kmph. Also, it clocks 0-100 KMPH in flat 8.4 seconds. The 0-100 KMPH record is not much higher than KTM Duke, making it a mix of a sports bike and a cruiser.

Importantly, even bike if the bike is cruising at 120 KMPH, it would not vibrate and still would give a chance of overtaking.

Bajaj Dominar 400 – Design

The power cruiser comes with large dimensions and a low-slung stance. Obviously, it is going to catch some attention.

It comes with an aggressive and sculpted body, giving the muscularity to the bike. The ‘Dominar’ plate on the beefy fuel tank, just looks perfect on its chiselled body.

The LED headlamps with a small windscreen add to the manliness of the bike. Other design elements include a skid plate, broad handlebars, sporty rear side-tails and a well-designed cowl.

Also, the machined alloy wheels and the sporty mudguard add to the finishing touch. From the rear, it copies the tail light styling from Pulsar.

A small exhaust muffler is fitted on the big Dominar, which looks a little usual. However, as the frame of the bike is heavy, it gets a little scary to overtake at high speeds.

Bajaj Dominar 400 – Variants

Currently, Dominar 400 has only 1 variant in its lineup:

Bajaj Dominar 400 – Colours

Dominar 400 is currently available in three colours – Rock Matte Black, Glacier Blue, and Canyon Red. However, I think the Matte Black goes perfectly with it because of the black alloy wheels.

Bajaj Dominar 400 – Competition

Currently, Dominar 400 has a very stiff competition given to its aggressive pricing. Also, it swings both sides as a sports bike and as a cruiser. So, it faces comparison from both the sides. It competes with the likes of Mahindra Mojo, KTM Duke 390, Honda CBR 250R, Royal Enfield Thunderbird and Yamaha FZ 25. However, the biggest advantage of this bike is due to its huge list of features and impressive performance specs.
