Honda Elevate Launched in South Africa

The made-in-India Honda Elevate has been launched in South Africa. Elevate is the first proper mid-size SUV from Honda in India. It has been doing decently well on the sales charts. We know that India exports many cars to the South African market. Basically, the mindset of Indian and South African customers is almost similar. Both want cars with a value-for-money offer and high mileage. Hence, made-in-India cars do very well in South Africa. That is the reason why Honda Elevate has been launched in SA at R369,900 (Rs 15.92 lakh INR).

There are barely any changes to the exterior styling of the African Elevate in comparison to the Indian trim. At the front, it gets a broad grille with a chrome belt on the top, a sleek LED headlamp with LED DRLs, fog lamps on the extreme edges of the bumper, a skid plate underneath the sporty bumper and an upright bonnet. On the sides, there are large 17-inch alloy wheels, side body skirtings, chrome belts underneath the window frame, roof rails, and chrome door handles. The rear profile gets a connected taillamp design, a shark fin antenna, a roof spoiler, a sturdy skid plate and a sporty bumper.

Interior and Features

Just like on the outside, there are barely any changes to the inside. It gets a dual-tone dashboard layout with the use of soft-touch materials. There are all modern amenities including an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment display (10.25-inch in the Indian version), leatherette seats, steering wheel and gear lever, 6-speaker audio system, automatic climate control, digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, and more. Note that the Indian model gets ADAS, while the South African model misses out on it.

Specs

Honda Elevate borrows the powertrain from the City sedan. It comes with a sole 1.5-litre NA petrol engine generating 121 PS and 145 Nm of peak power and torque. This engine comes with either a 6-speed manual or a CVT automatic transmission. We have seen this engine in the City for a long time now. In India, it retails between Rs 11.58 lakh and Rs 16.20 lakh, ex-showroom.

Author’s Note

Note that the Elevate is also being exported to the home market of Honda, Japan. It’s amazing to see the Honda Elevate, first revealed in India last year, now being sent from India to South Africa. This shows how India is becoming more and more prominent in the world of cars, and it proves that India can make world-class vehicles. The fact that a car introduced in India is now going to Japan and South Africa highlights our manufacturing capabilies. It’s a big change and shows that India can make a lot of cars not just for its own people but for people all over the world. In the competition future, India is bound to hold an imposing position.
