Mahindra Alturas is based on Ssangyong G4 Rexton SUV and is literally a rebadged version of Rexton. Rexton G4 is popular in the global markets. Alturas looks very identical to Rexton with minor visual upgrades and a different engine.
It comes in two variants – G2 and G4. The base variant comes at a price of Rs 26.95 Lakhs and the G4 goes for Rs 29.95 Lakhs (ex-showroom).
Alturas comes with a 2.2 Litre diesel engine that produces 170 BHP and 420 Nm of peak torque. It comes only with an automatic gearbox, for which it uses a Mercedes-sourced 7-speed AT unit.
The SUV gets a 2WD drivetrain for the base variant. The G4 variant comes with a 4 Wheel Drive system.
Features onboard Mahindra Alturas include LED Projector Headlamps, Automatic headlamps, Rain-sensing wipers, 8-way adjustable driver seat with memory function, Dual-zone climate control, Touchscreen infotainment system, Voice command, Panoramic Sunroof and Automatic Tail-gate.
Safety features include Dual front airbags, Side and curtain airbags, ABS, Electronic brake force distribution, Electronic stability control, Hill Descent Control, Hill Ascent control, Parking sensors and a 360-degrees Parking camera.
The SUV offers 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels as standard fitment. It uses a monocoque chassis, which gives it SUV-handling abilities.
Mahindra Alturas goes off against the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Honda CR-V and Isuzu MU-X facelift.
In this competition, Fortuner is the biggest player, mainly because of its high dependability. However, Alturas offers many more features, which gives it an edge over Fortuner.
