A new set of spy images have revealed the exterior of the Mahindra XUV700 in totality. As seen in these pictures, the Mahindra XUV700 looks a lot like the XUV500, especially if you look at the front and side profile. It gets a similar grille and hood, while the greenhouse looks almost the same. The D-pillar has black cladding for a premium feel but at a quick glance, the new model looks a lot like the XUV500. The front-end has different LED headlamps though, which, however, might not be of everyone’s taste. The rear has some glimpses of the XUV500 but still manage to have a unique identity. Also, the rear spoiler is bigger on the XUV700 than on the XUV500. The interior is yet to be completely revealed but spy images have earlier shown the Mercedes-like twin-screen layout. Mahindra has also teased several best in segment features like auto headlamp booster, air purifier, smart door handles, etc.
The Mahindra XUV700 is not only the most awaited SUV of this year but also the most spied upcoming car of recent times. The new model will be positioned above the XUV500 and will go on to take on the likes of the Tata Safari and MG Hector Plus. So far, it has been believed that the new model would make its debut on this Independence Day, a la latest Mahindra Thar, which was revealed last August 15. Now, however, a TEAMBHP forum member who seems to have insider-info on this says the SUV will instead release on October 2.
Other than this, the same user has shared some more information on the Mahindra XUV700. He reports that production of the new model has already commenced and the first 100 units have rolled out. He also mentions that so far, the demand for the black and white paint schemes is the most as 50% of the cars produced so far are in these shades. A new reddish colour previously unseen on any Mahindra model will also be offered. Also, the first lot of the XUV700 will have the current logo. This is unlike what was being speculated because the new logo was apparently supposed to make its debut on the new SUV. Also, as revealed by fresh pics, the SUV is now being tested with a new camouflage in a bid to build the hype before the launch of the vehicle.
Powering the Mahindra XUV700 will be petrol and Diesel motors. Both the engines will be available with manual and automatic transmission options. The petrol engine on offer will be a 2.0-litre turbocharged unit, which, for the latest Mahindra Thar, outputs a maximum power of 150PS. On the other hand, even the diesel engine comes from the Thar. Currently, it offers 130PS but both the motors will be re-tuned for the XUV700. The new model will also become the only offering in its class to come with an optional all-wheel drive (AWD) system.
Prices of the Mahindra XUV700 are expected to start much above those of the XUV500, which means it could cost from Rs 16 lakh to Rs 22 lakh (ex-showroom). It will go on to lock horns with the likes of Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar and MG Hector Plus.
