Expected to launch in India with a wide price band, the MG Hector SUV is going to compete against a wide array of vehicles in-between INR 10-20 Lakh range.
The year 2019 is going to mark the arrival of several new vehicles in the Indian market. The interesting thing to note however is that majority of the new vehicle launches scheduled for our country comprise the ‘Sports Utility Vehicle’ segments. And that too primarily focused on the price range of INR 10 lakh to INR 20 lakh, the current hot-pot for the demand of swelled up urban compact utility vehicles. While some of the products are from the existing players in the automotive pool, some are going to mark the arrival of altogether new entities testing the waters of our market. One such is MG Motors which will launch their Hector SUV in our country sometime during the second half of this year.
The MG hector SUV is essentially the Indian version of the Baojun 530 both of which are a part of the Chinese state-owned automotive company SIAC. Recent reports suggest that the Hector, thanks to a large percentage of localization, is going to be priced quite competitively. And thanks to this, is going to compete against ‘SUVs’ from a number of different segments. We are estimating MG to price the Hector somewhere in-between the price range of INR 12 Lakh to 18 Lakh.
With this, the MG hector SUV, on one end of the spectrum, i.e. its base variants, will compete against the likes of Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks and even the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross. However, its mid-spec-variants will ho head to head with the likes of Tata Harrier and the Mahindra XUV500. The top-spec trims will try to go get a slice of the pie from the territory of the Jeep Compass and stretching right up to the Hyundai Tucson.
The MG Hector, thanks to its full sized SUV dimensions, will stand should to shoulders in terms of its road presence with the likes of Fortuner and Endeavour. However, with a seating capacity of five persons, it will have a generous amount of room for the second row of passengers along with humongous areas for the luggage compartment.
The MG Hector SUV is going to launch in India with both petrol as well as diesel engine option under its hood. The petrol engine is going to be a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol motor. While the diesel engine is going to be a 2.0-litre unit. Both these engines will have a maximum power output figure of 170 BHP. And are going to launch with an automatic transmission option in addition to a manual one.
