Tata Motors had unveiled the Tata Tiago JTP along with its sibling, Tigor JTP, at the Auto Expo 2018. Following that, recently Tiago JTP was spotted during one of its test drives. The hatchback gets a more powerful engine and some visual updates compared to the current Tiago. The ‘JTP’ in the suffix is an acronym for ‘Jayem Tata Performance’. Tata Motors is working with Coimbatore based Jayem Auto for developing this quick hatchback. It will get some visual updates that include new bumpers with larger air dams, smoked headlamps, and gloss black treatment for the grille. Overall, it gets sporty looks with added air intakes and classy interiors with upholstering leather seats and additional 8 speakers Harman Kardon audio system and more. In terms of cabin space, the car remains the same.
Other extra features of the Tata Tiago JTP include vents on the hood, vents on the fenders, side skirts, gloss back paint on the rear diffusers, contrast roof paint, red-coloured ORVM caps, and JTP badge on the front grille. It might also get aluminium pedals to add to the sportiness of the hatchback. The Tiago JTP also gets a touchscreen infotainment system with an eight-speaker Harman Kardon system. Rest all the features of the current Tiago will be carried over to the JTP trim. Some reports suggest that the suspension system gets some revisions to aid the handling characteristics. The ride height has been lowered, too.
Both the models are expected to come in petrol variants only. They will get Nexon’s 1.2 Litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. The engine produces a maximum power of 110 BHP and a peak torque of 150 Nm. It will get a 5-speed gearbox with increased 15-inch rims for better acceleration. Barring this, the car gets no further mechanical updates. Tata Tiago JTP is expected to be priced between Rs 4.5 Lakhs to Rs 5.5 Lakhs (ex-showroom).
The current Tiago features smoked headlamps, signature front grille, Easyshift A.M.T, First-in-Class Multi Drive mode, Gear shift indicator and height adjustable driver seat. In terms of safety, it gets dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, Rear Parking sensors and energy absorbing body structure. It competes with entry-level cars like Renault Kwid, Maruti Alto and Hyundai Eon. It is one of the most emerging players in the entry-level hatchback segment. Currently, the Tiago starts from Rs 3.35 Lakhs and goes up to Rs 5.99 Lakhs (ex-showroom).
