Tata Tiago has seen a couple of makeover versions till now. There is the crossover Tiago NRG, Tiago EV showcased the Expo and the recently launched Tiago JTP Hot Hatch. For a price of Rs 6.39 Lakhs, it is the cheapest hot hatchback in India. The Tiago JTP gets Nexon’s turbo petrol engine and some mechanical changes. The visual upgrades make it look fiery hot and sportier than ever. Feature additions are also there, including a 5″ touchscreen infotainment system. Currently, Tiago is one of the best-performing cars of Tata and also in its compact hatchback segment. So, let’s check out what Tata has offered with this Tiago JTP.
Tata Tiago JTP Vs Tata Tiago Engine
|Tata Tiago JTP||Tata Tiago|
|Engine||1.2 Litre Turbocharged petrol||1.2 Litre petrol|
|Power||112 BHP||83 BHP|
|Torque||150 Nm||114 Nm|
|Transmission||5-speed MT||5-speed MT/AMT|
Tiago JTP will come only with a petrol engine. The 1.2 Litre turbocharged 3-cylinder petrol engine is borrowed from the Nexon. The engine chugs out 112 BHP and 150 Nm of peak torque. For better performance, Tiago JTP gets performance-oriented intake and exhaust system.
The power figures of JTP are much higher than Tiago, even around 2 BHP higher than the Nexon. Figures are even higher than Baleno RS. Performance cars mostly come with petrol engines only, because of higher power figures than Diesel. Tata claims that this hot-hatch can go 0-100 kmph in 10 seconds flat and can reach a top speed limit of 160 km/hr.
JTP stands for Jayem Tata Performance. Jayem Automotive is a Chennai-based automotive company. This company specializes in the development and production of performance oriented cars. Tata joined hands with this company last year and showcased the JTP models at Auto Expo 2018.
The normal Tiago comes with a 1.2-liter Revotron petrol and 1.05 Litre Revotorq diesel engine. The petrol engine produces 83 BHP and 114 Nm of peak torque. The diesel engine puts out 69 BHP and 140 Nm of torque.
Since it is a hot hatch, the JTP gets a manual gearbox only. The gear ratios are optimized for better performance and quick shifting. The Tiago petrol gets Manual as well as an AMT unit and the diesel one gets a manual unit only. The petrol AMT comes with features such as Sport mode, Creep Function and Easy Shift gear.
Tata Tiago JTP Vs Tata Tiago Design
Well, the Tiago JTP just got sportier than ever. JTP gets several enhancements highlights to make it look like a performance car. Starting off with the front, it gets a redesigned front grille, a sporty black diffuser, revised front bumper and air vents on the bonnet. It gets a new set of 15-inch diamond cut alloy wheels.
On the side, it gets bold side skirts and contrasting coloured ORVMs. At the rear portion, the JTP gets a dual-exhaust for a better experience, a rear roof spoiler, and a revised bumper. A contrasting black coloured roof and special JTP badges on the front fender and rear complete the performance look.
Inside the cabin, it receives red accents on the steering wheel and above the AC vents. A similar red coloured stitching with black upholstery also comes in the JTP. With all these design upgrades, the Tiago JTP looks fiery hot.
Tata Tiago JTP Vs Tata Tiago Features
The feature upgrades are minute. Tiago JTP will get a 7-inch Harmon Kardon infotainment system with voice recognition and Android Auto and fully automatic temperature control. Performance feature upgrades will include Sport and City Mode, whereas the Tiago gets only City and Eco Mode. The Tiago JTP will get all the other features found on Tiago’s top-end trim. For safety, the Tiago JTP will continue with dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, Cornering ability and a structurally rigid architecture. It will also get rear parking sensors with a rear view camera.
Tiago misses out on the infotainment system, temperature control and rear parking camera. As of now, only Santro and Kwid offer these features.
