Slated to go on sale soon, the Hyundai Creta-rivalling Toyota HyCross will be followed by the Toyota HyCross hybrid MPV that will be sold alongside the Innova Crysta

Toyota Kirloskar Motor will soon embark on a new car offensive that will see the introduction of a handful of new models. The first of these, which will rival the Hyundai Creta as well as the Kia Seltos, was recently unveiled as the Urban Cruiser HyRyder. The new model will go on sale pretty soon and will be available with a full-hybrid option. However, TKM wonโ€™t rest on its laurels with the launch of the new C-SUV. Later this year, the carmaker will come up with another hybrid offering in the form of the Toyota HyCross.

Toyota HyCross Launch Date and Specs

In all likelihood, the introduction of the Toyota HyCross will take place around the end of the current calendar year. Rumours abound that the new model, which will be based on the next-gen Innova Crysta, will be sold alongside the current version of the MPV. That said, the latter will be given a minor nip and tuck to freshen things up a bit. Also, with the HyCross targeting the premium market, the Crysta will be aimed at continuing with the successful stint in the fleet market.

Taking a major departure from the Innova Crysta, the Toyota HyCross will be a monocoque. While this could lead to a slight dip in the ruggedness due to the departure from the ladder-frame construction, it should surely aid dynamics. The platform that will underpin the upcoming hybrid will be the globally acclaimed TNGA-C architecture. The MPV will be longer than the Crysta, with the wheelbase being at least 100 mm longer. Powering the Toyota HyCross will be a 2.0-liter petrol-hybrid powertrain. The THS II (Toyota Hybrid System II) will be seen featuring a twin-motor system that will lead to excellent fuel efficiency and torque delivery. A diesel engine is not on the cards. That said, the current Innova could be sold with a CNG option.

Design

While details are sketchy at the moment, the Toyota HyCross could take design cues from several family members. These would include the Land Cruiser as well as the latest global UVs from the Japanese auto giant. The new model could even share some of its design cues with the Veloz MPV available in select Southeast Asian markets. The monocoque should lead to a more car-like stance along with plenty of weight-saving. This should, in turn, lead to improved dyanmics.
