Maruti Suzuki Celerio Diesel Gets Optional Safety Features Across All Variants

Updated

Good news folks! Maruti has just launched the Celerio diesel at an event in NCR. The Celerio diesel was among the the most highly anticipated of all the upcoming Maruti cars this year and the new engine variant has gone on sale with DDiS 125 moniker. The diesel variant of the Celerio hatchback should revitalize the sales performance of Maruti Suzuki in the small car segment of our country’s fast developing car market. It maybe noted that the Celerio hasn’t been very successful in establishing itself in the highly competent small car market of our country and the addition of the diesel engine is sure to give this car’s sales performance a shot in the arm. The diesel engine that powers the Celerio will be also seen on Maruti’s upcoming LCV (codename- Y9T). The upcoming Y9T LCV will go up against the likes of the Tata Ace and the Mahindra Maxximo. In future, this engine could also end up under the hood of other Maruti small cars such as the Alto and the WagonR.

The Celerio diesel becomes the most fuel efficient car to be sold in India, with an ARAI-certified fuel mileage of 27.62 km/l. . Kenichi Ayukawa, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki, has said that the Celerio’s new diesel engine will deliver “closer to 30 km/l”.

The Maruti Suzuki Celerio diesel has been caught on video, check it out above. The diesel engine is obviously very loud, since it is still being developed. Visually, the Celerio Diesel will not look any different from the petrol/CNG variants of the car, except for the badges. We expect Maruti to provide less equipment in the diesel variants than the similar petrol variants to keep the price of the cars competitive.

Features

Akin to the petrol variant, the upcoming Celerio diesel gets four variants – LDi, VDi, ZDi and ZDi (O). The flagship variant gets safety features like ABS, EBD and dual front airbags.

The biggest news though is the 2-cylinder, 793cc turbocharged diesel engine which will be powering the car. The new motor will come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and the first self-developed oil burner from the manufacturer is likely to belt out a maximum power of 47 bhp at 3,500 rpm and a peak torque of 125 Nm (hence the DDiS 125 moniker) at 2,000 rpm. This twin-cylinder low capacity diesel engine doesn’t get a common-rail diesel injection, and instead, comes with a Bosch engine management system that has a fuel injection block, a high-pressure fuel pump and a fuel control unit. The motor also gets a high-revving turbocharger and four valves per cylinder. This diesel engine weighs merely 89 kgs.

Maruti Celerio Diesel Videos

Here’s an interesting video that shows the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Celerio diesel being revved alongside the Swift diesel. As can be made out from the video, the NVH levels for the Celerio diesel are slightly on the higher side and even the engine note doesn’t sound too exciting, which doesn’t really come across as a surprise, what with the Celerio D’s motor being just a low capacity two-cylinder unit.

Here’s another video that gives you a good idea of the upcoming model’s NVH levels –

  1. This is very new by Maruti to launch Celerio Diesel Car in India. Its average is also good than other cars.

  2. kindly alert me as and when it launch and available in jhansi as i think that it is the best in all respect

  3. I Like this car . Planning to purchase in April 2015. Middle class will accept this car joyfully. Thanks.

  4. this is happy news for me i wait for lauching of celerio diesel ,please alert me on lauching
    my celerio purchase plan is

  5. There are reports that the noise is loud and the vibration is very high. How could Maruti do away with it.

  6. I will be looking up for this car. But still have few concerns.. This car might lack sufficient power which can result in real struggling on highways. And price shouldn’t be more dan petrol variant. As the engine capacity is low. As usually maruti’s diesel variants cost 1lac higher dan petron one but in dat case diesel engine is of much more capacity than petrol one.. This seems to be over hyped car on the name of just average.

  7. I aim happy on launching celerio diesel on less price and most fuel efficiency kindly alert me

  8. CELERIO DIESEL ⛽ WILL BE A BIG FLOP.
THE REASONS ARE THEY DON’T HAVE GOOD TRACK RECORDS IN THE PAST FOR DIESEL CARS ESPECIALLY IN SMALL CAR SEGMENT,AND THE REVIEW ITSELF SUGGESTS THAT THE ENGINE HAS LOUD NOISE AND NVH LEVEL IS ALSO HIGH,IT’S LIKE 2009 NANO UNDER THE BADGE OF MARUTI SUZUKI.

  9. Its engine must have long life as compare to petrol engine I AM HAPPY ON ITS LAUNCHING PLEASE ALERT ME

  10. A 2 Cylinder Diesel or Petrol Engine would be always noisier than a 4 Cylinder Engines in idling ,however MSIL has done an impressive job to suppress the cabin noise to a substantial extent. The Celerio Diesel’s performance in the market is going to be interesting to observe as regards the routine maintenance & KMPL.

  11. Maruti Suzuki is name of India’s automobile industry…Maruti has given so many smiles to Indian…of course cilario will b again a boost to all Indians as per its rate and milage …..once again cheers for cilario ……

  12. In my opinion celerio diesel just a car for medium class this 125 diesel car engine not get long life it will take maintenenece cost higher than others with equal load & road.

  13. cilario is good comfort, local cost and buyer all is possible. It is india’s car and be proud to be an indian. jai hind. Cilario catch the road everyones eye. best of luck cilario.

  14. Maruthi is always VFM for Indians. But Celerio diesel is not the one. If anyone planning to go diesel variant think wise before you go for it. I also waited for this diesel variant from last 4 months because of its fuel efficiency. After doing the test drive I am really disappointed with its performance. It is underpowered car. I am not an expert to discuss about engine but just writing my thoughts towards the newly developed in house engine. The pick up is less due to 47 bhp it seems. I think they cannot churn out more power from this tiny two cylinder engine. Lot of sound noise in engine and vibration too. Since this is newly developed engine cannot trust on life. MS is claiming 40000 km only warranty. This puts me to think about engine longevity and reliability. Instead of diesel variant it is best to go with AMT petrol version. The diesel variant also overly priced in comparison with its performance.

Conclusion: It is suggested to go with diesel if you are new car buyer.

Above is my only thoughts but not to criticize MS or any other. I am happy with my swift and will live with it for some more time.

  15. Twin cylinder engine for 800 cc engine may have more vibrations and power to compromise.
three cylinders might give more stability and power.
price is 1-1.25 lakh more as compare to 3 cylinders engine price.
