Bajaj brings the Chetak back in form with an electric motor. The scooter is priced from Rs 1 Lakh and gets a maximum range of 95 kms.
Bajaj Chetak Electric has now been launched in Pune and Bengaluru cities. Chetak, which went on to become a family member of almost every other household now takes a modern shape. The original Chetak was discontinued back in 2006 after being in production for nearly 27 years.
Bajaj Chetak Electric comes in two variants – Urbane and Premium, priced at Rs 1 Lakh and Rs 1.15 Lakhs (ex-showroom). The online bookings for Chetak will commence from 15th January 12 Noon and the deliveries will further commence by the end of February.
Chetak will be sold through KTM dealerships in Pune and Bengaluru. Offline bookings have commenced and the test rides will also commence by the end of this month. As of now, the scooter will only be sold in these two cities only.
Bajaj Chetak electric uses a 3 kWh lithium-ion battery pack which produces peak power of 4.08 kW and 3.8 kW continuous ride. It comes with two riding modes – Eco and Sport, offering a range of 95 kms and 85 kms respectively. The scooter also gets regenerative braking for increasing the range.
Features onboard LED headlamp with DRLs, feather-touch activated electronic switches, LED turn lights, Bluetooth-connected speedometer and alloy wheels. The main difference between the Urbane and Premium variants is that the latter gets additional colour options, front disc brake and tan-coloured seat.
For suspension, the scooter gets one-sided spring-loaded front suspension and a monoshock at the back. Drum brakes with CBS come on the Urbane Variant while the Premium variant gets a front disc brake.
Bajaj is offering an overall warranty of 3 years or 50,000 kilometres on the Chetak electric as well as the lithium-ion battery. The maintenance cost of the scooter is minimal as it needs to be serviced in every 12,000 kilometres or one year, whichever is earlier.
Bajaj Chetak goes against the likes of Ather 450, which is also available in Bengaluru and Chennai only. The latter is priced at Rs 1.14 Lakhs (ex-showroom) and offers a slightly lower riding range. However, the power and torque of Ather 450 are higher than Chetak.
