The Bajaj Pulsar 220 has been among the most successful models by BAL. But the advent of more modern bikes, like the Pulsar 200NS and the RS 200, have taken limelight away from the 220. The only 200cc-plus model in Pulsar stable is no longer the show stopper. However, there’s no denying that the P220 has enthralled many with its handsome styling, rev-happy motor and an attractive price tag.
The P220 can be credited with a lot of firsts. For instance, it became the first Pulsar to have above 20 PS of maximum power. It also became the first in segment to boast of a quarter fairing and bits like clip-on styled handlebars, rear disc-brake and projector headlamps. A speedo-indicated top whack of 150 kmph, decent ride quality, fantastic headlamps and a long list of features- the Pulsar 220 had a lot going for it. However, a lot has changed in last few years and the Pulsar 220’s desirability has taken quite a hit.
Fresher models like the Pulsar RS 200 and the Pulsar AS 200 have overshadowed the 220. While we do love the erstwhile Bajaj flagship, the new Pulsars are far more exciting. They are indeed better sorted out products. Our friends in Indonesia, however, haven’t given up on the P220 yet. They have come up with a tastefully modified Bajaj Pulsar 220 that they have named as the Rouser 220.
Modified Bajaj Pulsar 220 –
At first glance, the Rouser 220 looks decidedly sportier and much more attractive. The modified Bajaj Pulsar 220 that you see here is built around an Aprilia Deltabox frame. While the front fairing, fuel-tank and many body panels have been borrowed from a Gixxer, there are bits from other superbikes too. The original headlamp has been rather neatly crafted into the front fairing. While the front-end design might not appeal to everyone, the bike does manage to look aggressive. It looks just stunning in side profile.
The bike also gets the original rear view mirrors. A highlight of the front-end are the upside-down (USD) forks that come from the Yamaha YZF-R6. The disc brakes also come from the R6, while the rims and the swingarm come from a Honda RVF400. The wheels come shod with 120/70 spec Michelin rubber at front and 180/55 spec Michelin at the rear.
Engine details on this modified Bajaj Pulsar 220 aren’t available but looking at the mods, we hope it has got huge power bump.
