Skoda Kushaq Monte Carlo and Hyundai Creta in head-on collision.

While Hyundai Creta has scored a 3-star rating from Global NCAP, the Skoda Kushaq is yet to be tested by the non-profit organization

The hot-selling Hyundai Creta was awarded a reasonable 3-star safety rating by Global NCAP recently. While this didn’t surprise us due to the extensive parts sharing with the 3-star Kia Seltos, there were some who were disappointed with the rather ordinary score. On the other hand, the Skoda Kushaq, which is based on the India-spec MQB-A0-IN platform, has had mixed opinions from many of its owners. While many have appreciated its presumably solid build quality, others have been vocal about the car not feeling as well-built as the earlier generation of Skodas. All said and done, we can’t have a final word on the Kushaq’s build quality until it is evaluated by NCAP. A recent incident, though, offers some interesting visuals.

The Hyundai Creta has been the segment favorite for time immemorial. On the other hand, the first made-for-India offering from the Czech carmaker has found a decent response from buyers. Many have appreciated the clean looks, powerful-yet-efficient petrol engines, and good dynamics of the Kushaq. Also, several owners opine that their C-SUV ‘feels’ safer than the top-selling rival. At the same time, the Skoda Kushaq is yet to be tested by NCAP and until then, one can’t be too sure about its crashworthiness. Irrespective of this, an accident that took place in what seems to be Delhi-NCR has some interesting visuals to offer.

The video above shows the aftermath of a head-on collision between a Hyundai Creta and a Skoda Kushaq Monte Carlo. As seen, both the vehicles seem to have incurred similar damage. The entire front-end of both the SUVs has crumped in a similar fashion. In both cases, the impact has not penetrated the cabin and the airbags were deployed. Luckily, there’s no loss of life/serious injury reported from this incident. But both the vehicles sustaining a similar degree of damage makes many Skoda patrons question the build quality of Kushaq. Still, though, one must not draw conclusions simply on the basis of some photos and videos. There’s a lot more that decides the outcome of any collision – speed, angle of impact, momentum, et al.

Skoda Kushaq Yet to be Tested by G-NCAP

And it’s exactly because of this reason that we can’t be sure of the crashworthiness of Skoda Kushaq until it is tested by Global NCAP. For now, we’re happy that both the C-SUVs have managed to keep their respective occupants safe. In both the vehicles, the impact has been prevented from penetrating into the cabin. After all, the ultimate aim of the crumple zones is to protect the occupants and not the sheetmetal. And that’s what has happened in the case of Hyundai Creta as well as Skoda Kushaq.
