Ignis shares its engine lineup with other Maruti products. Therefore, it isย powered by aย 1.2 L Petrol and a 1.3 L Diesel motor. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT. While the Tiago diesel features a smaller, less powerful engine, the petrol variants of the Tiago are just as powerful as those of the Ignis. Tiago edges ahead in terms of fuel efficiency.

Tata is claiming an overall fuel efficiency of 27.28 kpl for the diesel variants of the Tiago. Petrol variants, according to official ARAI figures, return close to 24 KMPL overall. Based on ARAI test figures, the Ignis isn’t as fuel efficient as the Tiago.

Maruti Ignis vs Tata Tiago Design Comparison
The Maruti Ignis’ SUV-like styling makes it stand out from the crowd. It is sure to be big selling point here in India. The front features a very unique grille and headlamp setup with LED daytime running lights. Expect the Ignis to come with black body cladding, roof rails, etc. The rear isn’t as flamboyant as the front and might not be to everyone’s liking. The Tiago is easily one of the best looking Tatas till date. Indian public seems to have reacted well to the way the small hatchback looks. However, it does not have the SUV-appeal of the Ignis.
As far as the cabin is concerned, the Ignis gets a very interesting and modern dashboard design. The touchscreen infotainment system or the audio system in the Ignis does not sit flush with the centre console. In order to spruce things up a little, the Ignis’ cabin could get body coloured highlights. The Tata Tiago features a neat and functional dashboard layout. It gets body colour highlights as an option on certain variants and colours. Being a segment lower, the Tiago does not get as many features as the Ignis.

Maruti’s upcoming Ignis could turn out to be aย huge hit among the SUV-crazy Indians.ย Tata’s Tiago has seen a great response from the car buying lot and rightly so.
- Price –ย Even with Maruti’s aggressive pricing, the Ignis is considerably more expensive than the Tiago.
- Specifications –ย Ignis’ diesel engine bigger and more powerful. Tiago petrol makes the same amount of power as Ignis petrol.
- Features –ย For its segment and price, the Tata Tiago is a fairly feature rich offering. However, the more expensive Ignis boasts a longer list of equipment.
