Maruti Ignis vs Tata Tiago Design Comparison

The Maruti Ignis’ SUV-like styling makes it stand out from the crowd. It is sure to be big selling point here in India. The front features a very unique grille and headlamp setup with LED daytime running lights. Expect the Ignis to come with black body cladding, roof rails, etc. The rear isn’t as flamboyant as the front and might not be to everyone’s liking. The Tiago is easily one of the best looking Tatas till date. Indian public seems to have reacted well to the way the small hatchback looks. However, it does not have the SUV-appeal of the Ignis.

As far as the cabin is concerned, the Ignis gets a very interesting and modern dashboard design. The touchscreen infotainment system or the audio system in the Ignis does not sit flush with the centre console. In order to spruce things up a little, the Ignis’ cabin could get body coloured highlights. The Tata Tiago features a neat and functional dashboard layout. It gets body colour highlights as an option on certain variants and colours. Being a segment lower, the Tiago does not get as many features as the Ignis.

Maruti Ignis vs Tata Tiago Comparison – Verdict

Maruti’s upcoming Ignis could turn out to be a huge hit among the SUV-crazy Indians. Tata’s Tiago has seen a great response from the car buying lot and rightly so.

  • Price – Even with Maruti’s aggressive pricing, the Ignis is considerably more expensive than the Tiago.
  • Specifications – Ignis’ diesel engine bigger and more powerful. Tiago petrol makes the same amount of power as Ignis petrol.
  • Features – For its segment and price, the Tata Tiago is a fairly feature rich offering. However, the more expensive Ignis boasts a longer list of equipment.
  • Design – The Ignis is definitely a very eye-catching design. But looks are a matter of personal taste so we will leave this one up to you.

  1. Good comparison.

Pricing for Tiago is spot on and really makes it value for money. There are a lot of improvements in Tiago as compared to its tata siblings. Ignis on the other hand seems overpriced. Had it been priced 50k less than existing prices, it would have been spot on.

Specification: Specs on both cars are more or less same.

Features: Ignis provides many features on its top of the line model however the pricing makes it sour. Tiago has the features you would need nothing fancy.

Looks and Design: Tiago design looks quite refined than its fellow tata cars. Although build quality is not top notch but is acceptable. Ignis on the other hand looks good however interior space is somehow less despite bigger dimensions. The rear design treatment might not go well with some people especially with big and wide C pillar.

Service: Needless to say service would be better for Ignis.

Overall: Tiago is value for money and gives you the features you would need without burning your pocket. However service might be an issue here.
Ignis on the other hand is overpriced, being new and having fresh design, it might appeal to certain section of crowd. Service apparently won’t be an issue here.

I believe that after looking at Ignis people would actually go for Celerio, Swift, Wagon R, Grand i10 (I had engine issues with this car, would not recommend it to anyone) and Tiago.

  2. Comment:
design of rear end is disappointing
over priced. if the price is comparable with tiago it will make sucess
dash design is good only with touch screen. variants without touch screen is disappointing
    good in all spec
service and maintenance may be a problem

  3. Ignis is overpriced. It’s rear is ugly and dissapoining in spite of it’s additional features. I would go for Tiago as it is pocket friendly Never mind about a few hiccups with the Tiago.

  4. I think this comparison is paid from Maruti. As a Indian I prefer Indian brand. Comparing the safety concerns, Tiago and Tata vehicles are good than Maruti. Tata bodies are strong. I have booked XZ of Tiago. After going through the detailed analysis booked this car by cancelling the Ignis. Lots of improvement in the petrol engine of Tiago.

  5. Tiago is the clear winner as it provide abs ebd airbags and lot more features like fog lamps harman music system navigation … So Tiago is the best choice at this price point .

  6. There is a huge price difference between top diesel options of Ignis & Tiago, but very little difference between the features. That automatically makes Tiago a winner.

Besides the rear of Ignis is really ugly and terrible looking. Whosoever designed it must have done it sitting in the toilet.

At the same time, Tiago is too black from inside. It would have done much better if it had beige interiors as those in Ignis, which makes Ignis looks larger than it is.

However, overall Tiago provides more punch for the buck. I’d rather buy Tiago and save on 1.5 lakh price difference between top diesel models of both brands.
