Here is a design, specs and features comparison between the new Force Gurkha and second-gen Mahindra Thar. Force has just unveiled the BS6 Gurkha and the latest Thar is the direct natural rival. After the arrival of the latest Thar, Indian customers have shown a keen interest in lifestyle off-roading vehicles. Thar has enjoyed the entire pie itself for quite some time now. But the direct rival is here and comes with myriad updates compared to the last-gen model. Let us take a look at how the two lifestyle off-roaders fare in these specs, features and design comparisons.
New Force Gurkha vs Mahindra Thar – Design Comparison
The Gurkha has grown in length and that is visible on the outside. The typical G-Wagon-inspired silhouette is quite evident and enhances the appeal of the SUV. Gurkha has a flat high bonnet with indicators, a Sporty bumper with great approach angel, cover plate underneath the bumper to protect the belly, full-LED headlamps with round LED DRLs, Boxy Design, practical roof rails, carrier, large wheel arches with body cladding, high profile alloy wheels, a solid window for the rear passengers, side step for easy ingress and egress, short rea overhang for great departure angle, 205 mm ground clearance, full-size boot lid-mounted spare tyre and much more.
The Mahindra Thar, on the other hand, is heavily inspired by yet another off-roading monster, the Jeep Wrangler. It carries that sort of design with round LED DRLs, headlamps, bumpers with high approach angle, solid wheel arches, high profile alloy wheels, traditional windows and much more. Both these SUVs look great in their own right and reflect the rugged and sturdy nature required to fulfill the criteria of being a hardcore off-roader.
The Gurkha comes with a lot of modern features compared to the last-gen model. This includes the likes of the revamped cabin, redesigned dashboard design, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, ISOFIX for all 3 passengers, individual seats for all four occupants, roomier cabin, large boot space, Digital Infotainment System with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plenty of storage areas, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, Speed Sensing Door Locks, plenty of off-roading kit and suspension system with 4×4 system.
The Thar is definitely a better-equipped SUV with modern features and better design. It has all the features Gurkha has and then some more. The interior and cabin of the Gurkha are still rudimentary and utilitarian compared to the Thar but are a huge step-up from the previous Gurkha. People can now consider it as an SUV for daily use.
New Force Gurkha vs Mahindra Thar – Specs Comparison
The table below summarizes the specs comparison between the two off-roading SUVs.
|Force Gurkha||Mahindra Thar|
|Engine||2.6-litre diesel||2.0-litre turbo petrol;|
|Transmission||5-speed Manual||6-speed manual; Automatic|
|Power||91 hp||150 hp (Petrol);|
130 hp (Diesel)
|Torque||250 Nm||300 Nm (Petrol);|
300 Nm (Diesel)
It must be noted here that the Gurkha is available with just the diesel powertrain. The diesel engine might seem massively underpowered compared to the Thar but the real-world story is quite different. However, the massive torque surge is available at low RPMs which makes the need to shift gear less often. All in all, the performance of the Gurkha is adequate. The Thar has much better specs numbers and that translates to the real-world drive too. Although the official prices of the Gurkha are not out, we expect the Gurkha to undercut the Thar by a significant margin. We hope this features, design and specs comparison between Gurkha and Thar has cleared things out for you.
